President’s Welcome

Welcome to the Findlay Rotary Club website. We are pleased that you are visiting and look forward to sharing with you all the stellar initiatives, projects, and goals that we Rotarians will be supporting during our 2010-2011 Rotary year. Findlay Rotary will continue to celebrate its 90th year as a club and after five years, September 24-26 will mark the opening of Rotary Arena at Emory Adams Park. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, September 24 at 8:00 p.m. followed by a weekend of soccer tournments called the "Flag City Classic". Please mark your calendars for this wonderful event, more details will be forthcoming.

In addition, during our 2010-2011 Rotary year, our Club will continue to support the local, regional, national, and international work of Rotary. Our Rotary International (RI) theme provided by President Ray Klinginsmith of Kirkville, Missouri, for this Rotary year is “Building Communities, Bridging Continents.” This theme fits the work of all Rotarians as shown by highlights of our past and current projects:

* Members of our Findlay Rotary Club started MESA – Medical   Equipment & Supplies Abroad – which has sent and continues to send medical, educational, and household supplies to less fortunate nations. MESA is now a district-wide initiative supported by a manager and a 10,000 square foot warehouse in Findlay.

* Support of the “End Polio Now” campaign which is one of the main focuses of all 33,000 Rotary Clubs which comprise over 1,200,000 Rotarians throughout the world.

* Our signature program, The Golden Apple, is our Club’s effort to recognize and reward outstanding teachers in Findlay and in Hancock County.

* Our Youth Exchange Committee, Youth Committee, and Scholarship Committee support a diverse range of initiatives and projects that assist with funding while recognizing the fine efforts of the youth of our community. Our Rotaract Club located at The University of Findlay also shows our commitment to youth.

* Fundraising initiatives like Rock ‘n’ Rotary that supports two local non-profits as well as other past fundraising initiatives that have helped to build ball diamonds and soccer fields, assisted with flood recovery efforts, and enhanced the work of many of our fine charitable organizations.

Our Findlay Rotary Club may be very proud of its past accomplishments and will continue to strive to meet the expectations and challenges that are established not only by RI but also by our community and our own membership. “Building Communities, Bridging Continents” through the efforts of each of our Findlay Rotarians remains a focus and one that we wholeheartedly embrace through our commitment to local and world-wide initiatives. For more information, please review our website and consider becoming a Rotarian. We welcome an inquiry and look forward to considering you as a member of The Findlay Rotary Club, #3474.

Rotary Golden Apple Award
the symbol of teaching excellence

The Findlay Rotary Club is looking for three outstanding teachers.

The Rotary Golden Apple Award, signifying teaching excellence, will be awarded each year to outstanding teachers in the elementary, middle, and high schools of Findlay/Hancock County.

The Club hopes the Golden Apple Awards will enhance the public’s respect for teachers and help attract new, dedicated people to the teaching profession.

The public is invited to nominate Findlay/Hancock County teachers who have made a dramatic difference in their lives. The Rotary Club will accept nominations of outstanding teachers until November 15, 2010. Nominations received after that date will not be considered in this year’s process.

Who is eligible

Nominees must:

1. Teach full-time in a Findlay or Hancock County School;

2. Have taught a minimum of three years in their current school system;

3. Have spent a majority of their time in the classroom.

HOW SEMI-FINALIST AND FINALIST ARE SELECTED

A community selection committee, comprised of interest, civic-minded people, will screen the outstanding teachers nominated and choose nine semi-finalists (three each from the elementary, middle, and high school levels) who will be recommended to the Rotary Golden Apple Award Committee. The Rotary committee will select the three finalists.

WHAT FINALISTS RECEIVE

The Findlay Rotary Club will honor the three outstanding teachers at an awards luncheon in the spring. Each of the three outstanding teachers will receive a Golden Apple Award and a $2,500 cash award.
